DocsToAudio has a free Standard tier and a paid Premium tier. Standard is completely free, no account required, no usage limits, no hidden fees — ever. Premium uses ElevenLabs, Gemini and other premium AI voices, which sound more natural and expressive; it requires an account and credits, which can be purchased from your account page.

Premium supports ElevenLabs, Gemini and other premium AI voices, which sound more natural and expressive, offering a wider range of styles, accents, and languages; it also includes background conversion (keeps running after you close the tab) and 7-day audio re-download. Premium requires an account and credits.
Credits are used for Premium (ElevenLabs, Gemini, etc.) conversions. The cost depends on the AI model you choose. The estimated credit cost is shown before you start converting. Credits are purchased from your Account page and are valid for 1 year from the purchase date.
You can upload PDF, EPUB, DOCX, and TXT files. Converted audio is available as a ZIP of individual MP3 files (one per chapter) or as a single M4B audiobook with chapter marks.

Yes. After signing in, open My Cloned Voices and record or upload a clear voice sample to create a reusable AI voice. Once created, select the cloned voice during the voice-selection step of a document conversion. ElevenLabs is currently available, and additional voice-cloning providers may be added in the future.
Only if you have the voice owner’s prior, express, and informed authorization. Cloned voices must not be used for impersonation, deception, harassment, or unlawful purposes. The current ElevenLabs option requires users to be at least 18 and prohibits uploading or using the voice of anyone under 18.
The current ElevenLabs option charges 5,000 credits for each cloned-voice slot, with a maximum of two active slots per account. The slot charge covers creating and keeping the cloned voice. Document conversions using that voice are charged separately based on usage. Under the same ElevenLabs model, converting a document with a cloned voice costs the same as using a regular ElevenLabs voice. The applicable credit cost is shown before you create a voice or start a conversion.
Your voice sample is temporarily stored and sent to the voice-cloning provider you select to create and process the cloned voice. After the voice is successfully created, we attempt to delete our temporary copy of the sample. The cloned voice may continue to be hosted by the selected provider, and you can delete it from your account at any time.
For the current ElevenLabs option, we will send you an email warning if the cloned voice has not been used for a document conversion for more than 30 days or if your account no longer has valid credits. If the issue is not resolved within the following 7 days, the cloned voice will be automatically deleted. Data handling and retention practices may vary by provider; see our Privacy Policy and the provider information shown before creation.
Not for the Standard tier. You can upload a file and start converting immediately — no sign-up, email, or password needed. An account is required only to access the Premium tier, which uses ElevenLabs, Gemini and other AI voices with a credit-based system.
Your original document file is parsed in your browser and is never uploaded to our servers. The selected text of each chapter is sent to our server to generate audio and then forwarded to the relevant speech synthesis provider (Microsoft for Standard, ElevenLabs or Gemini for Premium). You can choose how you use the service: use Standard without signing in and conversion runs entirely in your browser — audio is never stored on our servers, giving you the strongest privacy. Alternatively, sign in and add credits; with any credit balance above 0 you can submit background conversion jobs and close your browser — conversion continues on our servers whether you use Standard or Premium voices, with Premium models (ElevenLabs, Gemini, etc.) deducting credits by usage. Audio from background conversions is stored on our servers for 7 days for re-download, then automatically deleted. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
The Standard tier offers dozens of languages and over 300 voices, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, and many more. The Premium tier offers 800+ AI voices in 30+ languages via ElevenLabs, plus high-quality multilingual voices via Gemini, including voices tuned for narration, conversation, education, and more. You can preview any Premium voice before converting.
There is no hard limit, but very large files may slow down your browser. For very long documents, selecting fewer chapters at a time can improve reliability.
It depends on your account type. For Standard conversions, the process runs live in your browser tab — closing or refreshing the page will interrupt it, so keep the tab open until the download completes. Premium users (with any credit balance above 0) can submit a background conversion job and close the browser — conversion continues on our servers. You'll receive an email when it's done, and the audio is available to re-download for 7 days.
For Standard conversions, refreshing and retrying is always safe and free. For Premium conversions, if a chapter was already processed by ElevenLabs or Gemini before the failure or cancellation, a small number of credits may have been consumed. You can safely retry; if you experience repeated failures, contact us at support@docstoaudio.online.
Commercial use depends on both your rights to the source text and the terms of the speech service used for conversion.
For personal listening, DocsToAudio does not impose additional restrictions. For commercial use — such as selling, publishing, broadcasting, monetizing, or using the audio in public-facing projects — you are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights and that your use complies with applicable laws, platform rules, and relevant third-party speech service terms.
DocsToAudio does not guarantee that generated audio is cleared for commercial use.
